Traveling Construction Manager, Mid-Sr Level (Industrial)

About the Role

Construction Managers at Dennis Group are project site supervisors overseeing daily construction operations, including coordination of sub-contractors, site safety programs, project schedules, and budgets. Our projects focus on designing and building food and beverage process facilities (industrial/MEP projects), requiring close coordination with multiple engineering groups, designers, and architects. This role demands strong communication skills to interact with all levels of personnel, facilitate meetings, and utilize various software programs proficiently. The Construction Manager ensures project progression through both field and office tasks, including contract administration, project planning, scheduling, reporting, and advisory support for project management issues.

Responsibilities

• Daily supervision of construction activities, including coordination of subcontractors and site safety programs
• Oversight and supervision of assigned field engineers or Junior Construction Managers when directed
• Autonomous management of medium-sized projects
• Collaboration with project management to develop and update project scope, budget, and schedule
• Project accounting, budgeting, and cost management
• Establishing and maintaining site safety procedures with the safety team
• Overseeing process, mechanical, and utility equipment installations
• Permitting, code and regulatory administration, and approval
• Change order and general construction administration
• Coordination of field engineering and inspection activities
• Managing third-party testing, inspection, and relationships
• Researching construction management best practices
• Client-facing collaboration with owners, subcontractors, building officials, and the A/E team
• Preparing and administering third-party agreements
• Conducting jobsite walks/audits to ensure project progression and adherence to plans and schedules
• Procuring project services and equipment (rentals, PPE, etc.)
• Supporting and coordinating facility start-up
• Preparing and maintaining project reports and logs
• Ensuring schedule compliance with subcontractors and determining alternative resources or options
• Reviewing and maintaining submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Working with Project Controllers and Project Managers on supplier invoices and client billing
• Performing engineering calculations
• Preparing permit applications
• Assisting in preparing work plans and work packages
• Interpreting drawings and specifications for field crews
• Managing project punch-list inspections
• Promoting continuous and productive communication among project participants, including internal and external clients and partners
• Coordinating project close-out activities
• Supporting safety responsibilities in various capacities
• Supporting talent growth within the organization, including coaching and mentoring subordinates when directed
• Performing other tasks as assigned

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in construction science, building science, construction engineering, or a related field (strongly preferred)
• Design-build experience on industrial projects (strongly preferred)
• Experience overseeing subcontractors and driving project schedules
• Client interaction experience with strong technical, organizational, managerial, and communication skills
• Progressively responsible job site experience on industrial building projects, with a fundamental understanding of all construction phases and the ability to read and interpret construction documents, schedules, and budgets
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (a plus)
• Up to 100% travel to projects throughout the USA and possible Canada
• Work schedule: 10 days onsite, 4 days off

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, as well as standing and walking around project sites with uneven surfaces
• Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsites in all types of weather, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
• Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
• On-call availability to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other jobsite issues
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times

Travel

This is a site-based position with projects located throughout the United States and Canada. The role requires a 10 days on / 4 days off work schedule, with projects typically lasting 6 to 12+ months. Meal and lodging per diems are provided along with reasonable travel provisions. Up to 100% overnight travel is required based on project needs.
