Compensation: $110,000 - $160,000 / year, negotiable based on experience. Includes truck allowance, gas card, annual bonus, and per diem.

Must be willing to travel extensively in California and the Western part of the US.

About the role

Fulcrum Construction is a nationwide commercial general contractor specializing in the retail sector. Projects assigned can vary in size from $1M to $10M, and may include site work, ground-up store/facility construction, tenant improvements, and open store remodels. Specific consideration will be given to candidates with ground-up construction and site work experience.

The successful candidate will independently manage the day-to-day operations of the project in the field, providing steady leadership and strong direction to all field staff, while maintaining timely communication with project managers and owners to ensure successful completion of onsite construction. The Superintendent is responsible for all onsite quality assurance, project safety, and schedule implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Solely responsible for, and will be held accountable for, the timely completion of the project and ensuring that the project is constructed in strict accordance with plans, specifications, and local codes.
  • Manage all aspects of the on-site construction project from project start to punch-list completion.
  • Manage all on-site personnel to ensure the project is completed in sequence, per the contract documents/local codes, and within the projected timeline.
  • Develop and communicate 3-week look-ahead schedules based on the master schedule.
  • Ensure that subcontractors fully execute and comply with their contracted scope of work.
  • Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to the project team for resolution.
  • Manage and lead all weekly subcontractor meetings.
  • Be an integral part of the subcontracting process and issuance of Owner Change Orders.
  • Initiate and submit RFIs as applicable to field conditions.
  • Develop a project site logistics plan and lead site orientation meetings with all workers to review.
  • Review and understand materials budgets.
  • Negotiate and execute POs for onsite trailers, storage containers, dumpsters, and other site needs.
  • Approve invoices for specified job cost codes.
  • Document and ensure quality control and safety standards.
  • Track material deliveries and change orders.
  • Develop, manage, and implement job-specific safety programs and procedures.
  • Coordinate jobsite meetings/visits with owners, subcontractors, and Fulcrum team members.
  • Serve as the onsite leader of safety programs, including providing weekly toolbox talks.
  • Interpret, review, and approve all subcontractor submittals and shop drawings.
  • Document all job site activity via daily reports.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years or more of experience in commercial construction field, with at least 5 of those years serving as the project superintendent in charge of running jobs the size and scope of Fulcrum's projects.
  • Proven/previous experience on projects with complex site work and ground-up construction.
  • Proficient in plan reading, construction design, and overall building regulations/laws.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and process construction documents (plans, specifications, soil reports, safety manuals, etc.).
  • Proficient with typical construction software applications.
  • Mastery of building processes and best practices.
  • Proficient in estimating and scheduling practices.
  • OSHA-30 certification.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
