About the role

The Traveling Agriculture Mechanic (TAM) is responsible for assembling, repairing, rebuilding, and servicing agricultural equipment at customer locations throughout the United States. This role works directly in the field alongside a traveling mechanic crew and plays a critical role in ensuring equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and ready for customer use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Service & Equipment Support:
    • Assemble, rebuild, repair, and maintain agricultural notill drills, air seeders, and air carts at customer locations nationwide.
    • Diagnose mechanical issues and assist with equipment troubleshooting and repairs in field environments.
    • Ensure equipment is serviced, tested, and operational prior to customer turnover.
    • Safely and effectively utilize hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and diagnostic equipment required for repairs and rebuilds.
    • Support preseason preparation, inspections, and field service operations.
    • Maintain accurate service records, job updates, and operational communication with Crew Leads and management.
    • Absorb and unload, stage, and transport tools, parts, and equipment required for field operations.
    • Represent Quality Drills professionally while interacting with customers, dealerships, vendors, and operational partners.
  • Team & Operational Support:
    • Work closely with Crew Leads and fellow technicians to complete projects efficiently and safely.
    • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work environments both in the field and during travel operations.
    • Follow established safety procedures, operational standards, and company expectations.
    • Adapt to changing operational priorities, customer needs, weather conditions, and travel schedules during peak agricultural seasons.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of mechanic, heavy equipment, diesel, oil field, agricultural equipment, or related mechanical experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced and physically demanding environments
  • Ability to work extended hours and travel extensively throughout the United States
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record meeting company insurance requirements

Preferred

  • Experience working on agricultural equipment, notill drills, air seeders, diesel equipment, heavy machinery, or fleet equipment
  • Technical or vocational mechanical training
  • Experience working in outdoor service or field repair environments
  • Experience operating trailers, towing equipment, or working with hydraulic systems

Travel Requirements

Extensive nationwide travel required. Travel expectations typically range from 85-90% throughout the year. Standard field rotation is generally 14 days on / 4 days off, though schedules may extend during peak operational periods. Overnight travel required regularly.

Work Location Details

Position is based out of Wichita, Kansas. Employees must reside in Wichita, Kansas or surrounding areas within reasonable commuting distance. Work is primarily performed at customer locations throughout the United States. Extended overnight travel and field deployments are standard expectations of the role. Weekend work, overtime, and extended shifts are regularly required during peak operational periods.

  • This position is classified as non-exempt and eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable law.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable background screening, drug screening, and work authorization verification.
  • Employees operating company vehicles or equipment must meet company driving and insurance eligibility requirements.
  • A physical examination or fitness for duty evaluation may be required consistent with business necessity and applicable law.
