Magnet Medical is seeking a travel Radiology Technologist for a 13-week assignment in Metairie, Louisiana. This role involves performing diagnostic imaging procedures using X-ray equipment to create images of patients' internal structures for physician diagnosis and monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-Procedure Preparation:
    • Review patient medical history and physician orders to determine the appropriate X-ray procedure.
    • Prepare and check X-ray equipment for proper functionality.
    • Explain the procedure to patients, addressing concerns and ensuring understanding.
    • Verify patient identity and ensure completion of necessary paperwork, including informed consent.
    • Position patients correctly, ensuring removal of metal objects and proper gowning.
  • Performing X-Ray Imaging:
    • Position patients accurately to obtain clear images of the specified area.
    • Operate X-ray machines to capture images of bones, organs, tissues, and other internal structures.
    • Adjust machine settings (e.g., exposure, radiation dose, angle) based on patient size and medical condition.
    • Ensure images meet diagnostic standards for clarity and accuracy; repeat procedures if necessary.
    • Communicate with patients during imaging, providing instructions (e.g., holding breath) for optimal results.
  • Patient Safety and Comfort:
    • Follow radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure for patients and staff.
    • Use protective gear (e.g., lead aprons) as necessary.
    • Monitor patients during procedures to ensure comfort and provide reassurance.
    • Address patient concerns or side effects during or after the procedure.
  • Image Quality and Analysis:
    • Review X-ray images for sufficient quality and diagnostic value.
    • Confirm correct body part alignment and appropriate exposure.
    • Repeat procedures if images are unclear or incomplete.
    • Provide preliminary observations to physicians, if required.
  • Post-Procedure Care:
    • Assist patients after the procedure, ensuring stability and comfort.
    • Remove protective gear and provide post-procedure instructions.
    • Address follow-up requirements or potential side effects.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Perform routine maintenance and checks on X-ray equipment.
    • Clean and disinfect the imaging room and equipment after each use.
    • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and report malfunctions.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping:
    • Document patient information, procedures, and images in the electronic health record (EHR).
    • Ensure images are properly labeled, filed, and stored for future reference.
    • Maintain accurate logs of procedures, equipment use, and operational issues.
  • Collaboration with Medical Team:
    • Work closely with physicians, radiologists, and healthcare professionals to ensure timely image review.
    • Communicate issues related to image quality or the need for additional imaging.
    • Schedule follow-up imaging or procedures as needed.
  • Radiation Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure for patients and staff.
    • Use protective equipment (e.g., lead shields, aprons, thyroid collars) as required.
    • Comply with all radiation safety standards and facility-specific guidelines.
  • Professional Development and Training:
    • Stay current with advances in radiologic technology and safety protocols.
    • Participate in continuing education programs to maintain licensure.
    • Assist in training new technologists, students, or interns on imaging techniques and patient care.

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week
  • 10-hour night shifts

Pay

Pay package is based on 10-hour shifts and 40 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
