Travel RN – Med/Surg/Telemetry Float Pool
Position Summary: Join the Med/Surg/Telemetry Float Pool, providing coverage across multiple medical-surgical and telemetry units. Travelers should be comfortable floating between units, caring for telemetry patients, and working in a fast-paced acute care environment.
Submission Requirements
- 50-mile radius rule
- Valid (unexpired) Driver's License must be included with every submission
Float Pool Units
- 6N – 36 beds
- 7N – 29 beds
- Additional float units: 4N – 36 beds, 5S – 36 beds, 6S – 36 beds
- Critical Care – 20 beds (appropriate assignments only)
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
- Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
- Holidays worked with the permanent staff rotation
- No call or standby requirement
Requirements
- Recent Med/Surg and Telemetry experience
- Able to independently interpret cardiac rhythms
- Must successfully pass the facility's Cardiac Rhythm Exam
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
Patient Ratios
- Typical: 1:5–6
- Occasionally up to 1:7 toward the end of a shift depending on census and patient acuity
Common Patient Population
- Chronic Renal Disease
- Orthopedic patients
- Oncology patients (chemotherapy administered by permanent staff only)
Traveler Skills
- Comfortable with: Telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation, General Med/Surg patient care, Cardiac patient management, Drips (no titratable drips)
Unit Resources
- Charge Nurse available on every unit
- Day Charge: No patient assignment
- Night Charge: May carry an assignment
- CNA/PCTs available on all units
- Radiation Therapy manages: CPAP, BiPAP, Telemetry: Phillips monitoring system, Monitor Technicians available on most units
Orientation
- 1–2 shifts with a preceptor
