Travel Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU - $3,414 per week

About the role

Travel NICU Respiratory Therapist position at a children's hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. Level 4 NICU with pediatric critical care units. 52-week assignment starting November 9, 2026.

Schedule

• Night shift: 19:00 to 7:00
• 4x12-hour shifts per week (48 hours/week; 36 hours/week option available)
• Every other weekend and every other holiday rotation required
• Must work 2 of 3 winter holidays
• Self-scheduling model (specific shift preferences not guaranteed)
• Floating within scope of practice may be required

Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care to NICU and pediatric critical care patients
• High-risk delivery assistance and neonatal transports
• Care for patients with ARDS, BPD, RDS, cystic fibrosis, and fresh tracheostomy
• Assist with bronchoscopy and intubation procedures as needed
• Airway management, suctioning, intubation assist, and ventilator management
• Medication delivery via aerosol setups, MDIs, and nebulizers
• Operation of High Frequency Jet Ventilator and Oscillating Ventilator
• ABG interpretation
• Use of neonatal/pediatric equipment including Bubble CPAP, CPAP/BiPAP, and High Flow Nasal Cannula

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of NICU and PICU experience required, with Level 4 NICU experience
• PICU Cardiac experience preferred
• RRT, BLS, and NRP certifications required
• PALS certification preferred
• VA state license required (pending licenses may be accepted if candidate holds another state license and can obtain VA temporary license before start)
• Epic experience required for SRO Float Pool and Inpatient Units
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• BSN preferred

Qualifications

Previous UVA Health employees must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning. External travelers limited to a maximum of 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached. Maximum of 40 hours RTO per 13-week contract, with all time off disclosed at time of consideration. No radius restriction for this position.
