Travel Registered Respiratory Therapist - $2,790 per week

About the Role

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a night shift position at a Level I/II trauma teaching hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. The role requires 4+ years of experience and Epic charting proficiency.

• Start date: November 9, 2026
• Assignment length: 26 weeks (13-week option also available)
• Shift: Nights, 4×12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
• Hours: 48 hours per week (36-hour option noted)
• Every other weekend required
• Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
• Epic EMR experience required
• Floating within scope of practice may be required

Requirements

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification required
• BLS required
• ACCS and ACLS certifications preferred
• Virginia state license required (pending license accepted if in hand by Wednesday before start)
• Minimum 4 years of experience required (candidates with 2+ years may be considered)
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I preferred
• Epic charting system experience required
• BSN preferred
• Two professional references required

Responsibilities

• Work in adult critical care and emergency department settings
• Manage patients with ARDS, aspiration, pneumonia, and fresh tracheostomy
• Perform ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
• Administer medications via nebulizer, MDI, and other delivery systems including Albuterol, Atrovent, and inhaled steroids
• Perform airway management including intubation/extubation assistance, suctioning, and tracheostomy care
• Draw and interpret arterial blood gases
• Provide chest physiotherapy including vest therapy

Additional Requirements

• Maximum 40 hours RTO per 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance
• Must disclose any planned vacation between sign date and start date
• Previous UVA employment as permanent staff or traveler requires 1-year separation and leadership approval
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return after reaching this limit
• First-time travelers not considered for this position

Pay

Pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 48.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
