About the role

The position involves providing direct and indirect nursing care to meet the health care needs of inmates in the New Jersey Department of Corrections. The role includes working in various settings such as the initial intake area, health care units, emergency situations, and chronic care clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assessments of resident-patient in various settings.
  • Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
  • Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for identified problems.
  • Plans nursing care based on assessments and makes appropriate referrals and initiates nursing care based on institutional policies and procedures.
  • Delegates duties to other health care team members and guides the provision of care by others.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education and Experience: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Certifications/Licenses: License to practice in the State of New Jersey, CPR Certification required, valid driver's license.
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment: Physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes, ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, ability to assist in lifting and rotating patients up to 50 pounds.
  • Special Conditions: Approved by the Department of Corrections and adherence to all DOC requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Certifications/Licenses: License to practice in the State of New Jersey, CPR Certification required, valid driver's license.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or its equivalent preferred.
