Job Summary

Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at an ECU Health facility in Greenville, North Carolina. This 13-week assignment involves working nights shift, providing care to neurologically complex patients, including those with stroke, post-neurosurgical needs, seizures, and neuro-immune conditions. The role requires clinical expertise in neuro-assessment and invasive procedures, with a focus on patient safety and recovery.

Job Details

  • Location: Greenville, North Carolina

  • Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week

  • Start Date: 08/10/2026

Certifications/Education/Experience

  • Valid North Carolina or Compact license

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

  • ACLs (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

  • NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certification

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a neuro or critical care setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Neuro experience

  • Ability to read and interpret electroencephalogram strips

  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record

  • Travel experience

Responsibilities

  • Managing acute stroke patients

  • Neuro-surgical recovery

  • Sleep seizure control

  • Neuro-immune conditions

  • Utilizing skills such as NIHSS assessment, lumbar puncture assistance, arterial and central line placement, tracheotomy care, lumbar drains, IV initiation, lab draws, arterial blood sampling, and infusion management including cardiac, insulin, and heparin drips

  • Monitoring patients using cardiac telemetry and vital signs

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Additional Information

  • No blocked scheduling; all time off requests (RTO) must be approved prior to assignment confirmation

  • Ratio varies between 1:4 and 1:6 depending on patient acuity

  • The population includes patients with complex neuro conditions such as stroke, brain tumors, neuro-immune diseases, and post-surgical neuro management
