This role emphasizes the integration of evidence-based medicine into patient care plans while maintaining professional conduct and respecting cultural diversity. The therapist tailors treatment plans according to age-specific and patient-specific needs, supporting the overall mission of delivering high-quality healthcare. Position Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Physical Therapy. No minimum clinical experience required; hospital-based experience is beneficial. Must hold a valid Physical Therapist license in good standing in Alaska or have completed the necessary paperwork to work as a Student Physical Therapist while preparing for the licensure exam. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Work Environment The standard work environment includes a hospital-based Physical Therapy Department, equipped with hi-lo tables, whirlpools, therapeutic exercise equipment, ultrasound, and electric stimulation modalities. In village-based settings, therapists may utilize a treatment table and bring necessary tools for patient care, including therapeutic bands and exercise programs. Skills and Abilities Ability to read and analyze physical therapy literature and medical publications. Proficient in composing patient care documentation and medical correspondence. Effective communication skills with medical staff, peers, and administrative personnel. Adept in interacting with diverse cultural backgrounds, including patients who may not speak English. Proficient in using a personal computer, including basic MS Office programs and email, as well as utilizing the internet for accessing medical literature beneficial to patient care. Strong numerical skills, capable of performing basic calculations and interpreting data in various forms. Ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
