Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections for inpatient, ED, and outpatient populations
- Primarily support Emergency Department and inpatient specimen collection during evening hours
- Assist outpatient services until approximately 5:30 PM
- Process and prepare specimens for laboratory testing
- Verify patient identification and specimen integrity
- Communicate effectively with providers, nursing staff, and laboratory personnel
- Follow quality assurance, infection prevention, and regulatory standards
- Assist with laboratory inventory, quality control, and departmental support as needed
Requirements
- California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT I) or equivalent approved certification
- Current BLS Certification
- 3–5+ years of recent phlebotomy experience (more experience strongly preferred)
- Strong Emergency Department and inpatient collection experience
- Excellent communication and patient care skills
Preferred
- CPT II Certification (welcomed for arterial blood gas collections)
- Critical Access Hospital experience
- Travel assignment experience
- Charting Experience
- EPIC experience is required
- Previous Cerner experience is beneficial
