About the role

Modern Healthcare Solutions is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess patients requiring intermediate care with a focus on cardiac, renal, pulmonary, and trauma-related disease processes.
  • Perform telemetry monitoring, IV starts, and manage dysrhythmic conditions.
  • Administer non-invasive airway management and manage peripheral lines.
  • Provide post-operative care for patients who have undergone cardiac or vascular procedures.
  • Participate in cardioversion procedures with the attending cardiologist and anesthesia team.
  • Provide comprehensive education and emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Collaborate with the outpatient heart failure clinic to enhance patient care and disease management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years of nursing experience required.
  • Traveler Experience: Not accepting first-time travelers.
  • Certifications: Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH certifications are required; NIHSS certification is preferred.
  • Skills: Proficient in telemetry, IV management, interpretation of dysrhythmias, and non-invasive airway management.
  • Experience in wound care and charge nursing is a plus.

Work Schedule

  • 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
  • Full-time commitment of either 36 or 48 hours per week.
  • Every other weekend required.

Patient Population

The Intermediate Care Unit primarily serves adult and geriatric patients with a variety of cardiac conditions, including:

  • Acutely decompensated heart failure
  • Post-procedural care for cardiac and renal interventions
  • Patients requiring continuous ECG monitoring
  • Those on high flow nasal cannula and BiPAP therapy

Special Procedures and Unit Details

  • Intensive monitoring, including frequent vital signs and respiratory assessments.
  • Use of mechanical ventilation, nebulizer treatments, and vasoactive IV medications as per policy.
  • Patient care includes emergency procedures and wound management.

System Utilization

Familiarity with PYXIS and Epic Product Dimensions is preferred. Effective communication through SBAR is essential for unit operations.

Orientation

A comprehensive unit orientation of 36 hours will be provided to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and practices.

Dress Code

Employees are required to adhere to the dress code, which allows any combination of navy and white scrubs.
