Travel PCU RN - $2,271 per week

About the role

TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Farmington, New Mexico. The assignment is 13 weeks, 36 hours per week on 12‑hour night shifts. Employment type is travel. PCU RNs care for patients who require close monitoring and frequent assessment but are not unstable enough for ICU care. They use computer equipment to monitor cardiac and other vital signs, detect changes, and enable intervention for life‑threatening situations. Close observation is needed because many PCU patients receive complex medications, often via intravenous lines that may require adjustment or titration. The PCU is also known as cardiac stepdown, medical stepdown, neuro stepdown, surgical stepdown, and ER holding.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic bedside care and stabilize critical cardiac patients.
• Change dressings, insert catheters and start IVs.
• Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions.
• Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, and interpret and record electronic displays.
• Initiate corrective action when monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
• Observe patients receiving complex medications, often via IV lines that may need adjustment or titration.

Requirements

• 1‑2 years of recent acute care experience.
• BLS certification.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods, bend, lean, and stoop without difficulty.
• Ability to lift 20 pounds easily; moving or lifting patients may require up to 50 pounds.
• Good stress‑coping skills and ability to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds.
• Additional certifications may be required before beginning the assignment.

Pay

Pay package is based on 12‑hour shifts and 36.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax‑free stipend amount to be determined.
