Travel Nurse RN - Stepdown - $2,298 per week

About the Role

Malone Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN for a 13-week assignment in the Cardiovascular Stepdown (CVSD) unit at a facility in Wheeling, West Virginia. This role is ideal for experienced CVSD or Cardiac Stepdown RNs with strong telemetry, chest tube, cardiac drip, and post-cardiac surgery experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage 4–6 patients in a 22-bed Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit
• Titrate cardiac drips: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Procainamide, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, and occasionally Insulin
• Provide chest tube management and epicardial pacing
• Monitor telemetry (rhythms interpreted by monitor technicians)
• Care for patients with conditions including:
  • Bradycardia
  • Atrial Fibrillation (A-fib)
  • Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT)
  • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
  • Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
  • NSTEMI
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
  • Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
  • CVA/TIA
  • Post-op CABG (Day 1)
  • TAVR
  • Post-op VATS, Lobectomy, Wedge Resection
  • Chest Tube and Tracheotomy patients
• Participate in self-scheduling through a scheduling committee
• Float as needed (travelers are first to float)

Requirements

• Active RN License
• BLS & ACLS certification
• Experience with epicardial pacing and chest tubes
• Comfort titrating cardiac drips
• Must be within a 50-mile local radius of Wheeling, WV
• Unexpired driver’s license required for submission
• No artificial nails (per dress code)
• Any licensing or background issues must be disclosed at submission

Unit Details

• 22-bed Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–6
• Self-scheduling available; block scheduling may be considered
• No ventilator patients
• Support staff includes:
  • Charge nurse with patient assignment
  • Nursing supervisor available 24/7
  • RT available hospital-wide 24/7
  • IV Therapy Team performs all IV starts
  • Nurse aides (approximately 1:15 ratio)

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts: days, nights, or rotating (6:45 AM/PM – 7:15 PM/AM)
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation required
• No call required
• One 12-hour orientation shift with a preceptor
