About the Role
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) registered nurse position is located in Morgantown, West Virginia. This role involves providing specialized care in a pediatric critical care environment, working with patients requiring advanced medical interventions. The position offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic and collaborative team in a busy hospital setting.
Schedule
- Rotating shifts, 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week minimum
- Day/night rotations and full weekend shifts
- Start date: 08/31/2026
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Holiday rotations included
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized care in a 20-bed PICU with an average daily census of around 15
- Patient ratios: ICU 1:1-2, Step-down 1:3
- Manage common diagnoses including congenital heart cases, DKA, respiratory illnesses, and neurosurgery
- Work with patients requiring tracheostomies, ventilators, G-tubes, and other advanced interventions
- Float within children's units (L&D, NICU, Pediatrics) as required, following normal ratios
- Wear dark gray (pewter) scrubs
Requirements
- Valid RN license
- BLS Certification (mandatory)
- PALS Certification (mandatory)
- Minimum of 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
- COVID vaccination (2 Moderna or Pfizer shots or 1 J&J shot) or approved medical/religious exemption
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with congenital heart program
- Experience with DKA, respiratory conditions, neurosurgery, tracheostomies, ventilators, and G-tubes
- Experience managing adult patients in pediatric units
Unit Details
- 20-bed unit with an average daily census of around 15
- In-house pediatrician, residents, and advanced practice providers available 24/7
- Nurse aides present on days and nights
- Charge nurse and house supervisor roles available
- RT equipment including vents, Cpap, BiPAP available
- Off-unit telemetry monitoring with central monitors
- No call requirement
