Travel Nurse RN - PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care - $2,518 per week

About the role

TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN for a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) position in Newark, New Jersey. This is an immediate travel nursing opening for a RN with 1‑2 years of recent acute care experience. As a PICU RN you will provide critical care to pediatric patients, collaborating with physicians, specialists, and families to ensure coordinated care. You will care for children and adolescents with conditions ranging from common childhood illnesses to life‑threatening diseases.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patients' vital signs and initiate corrective action when necessary.
• Follow continuous cardiac and respiratory monitor readings (EKG tracings, O₂ stats, CVP/arterial line waveforms, if applicable) and report any observed changes.
• Change dressings, insert catheters, start IVs (both central venous and arterial).
• Monitor and adjust specialized equipment such as ventilators.
• Assist physicians during examinations, treatments, and procedures, including life‑saving situations.
• Assist with insertion or discontinuation of CV catheters, arterial lines, external ventricular drains, Foley catheters, epidural catheters, and endotracheal tubes.
• Stand and walk for long periods; bend, lean, and stoop without difficulty.
• Lift 10‑20 pounds of equipment as needed.
• Be aware of hazards from exposure to chemicals and infectious diseases.

Requirements

• ACLS certification.
• BLS certification.
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience (1‑2 years’ recent acute care experience preferred).
• Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment.

Pay

Pay package is based on 12‑hour shifts and 36.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax‑free stipend amount to be determined.
