About the Unit

• 29-bed step-down/med-surg unit currently under construction; all beds will be step-down equipped with opening planned for first quarter 2026
• Flex unit serving both floor and step-down patients based on hospital needs
• Diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 3:1 for step-down, 6:1 for floor
• Clinical Associates (nurse aides) staffed at a 1:10 ratio

Responsibilities

• Manage 3–6 patients depending on acuity (step-down or med-surg)
• Titrate drips per physician orders (common drips: heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, anti-arrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, PCA opioids, TPN)
• Care for patients on CPAP, BiPAP, HiFlow, and ventilators (ventilator setting adjustments referred to ICU)
• First to float or be pulled to other floor/step-down units

Requirements

• Active RN license
• BLS and ACLS certifications
• EPIC experience required
• Ability to handle 6 med-surg or 3 step-down patients
• New and experienced nurses welcome

Unit Details

• 24/7 charge RNs and House Supervisors; charge RNs may take an assignment during initial unit opening
• Remote telemetry surveillance center with central monitoring on the unit; RNs not required to read their own strips
• Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment
• Dress code: any combination of royal blue and white

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts
• Block scheduling not guaranteed, but requests accommodated whenever possible
• Agency RNs expected to work weekend positions and approximately half of recognized holidays
• No call or standby requirement
