About the role

Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Step Down Units in Omaha, Nebraska. This position involves providing critical care to adult patients with complex medical conditions in a busy acute care environment. The RN will be responsible for delivering compassionate, high-quality nursing care in a fast-paced setting during night shifts, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Responsibilities

  • Provide critical care to adult patients with complex medical conditions in a busy acute care environment
  • Deliver compassionate, high-quality nursing care during night shifts in a fast-paced setting
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort
  • Float to other medical-surgical and step down units as required (assignments remain at same level of care)
  • Manage titratable drips and respiratory equipment

Schedule

  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Start date: 09/14/2026
  • Duration: 18 weeks
  • Minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–1:5 during both day and night shifts
  • Orientation includes two days of unit-specific training

Required Qualifications

  • Valid nursing license
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as an RN
  • Current BLS (American Heart Association) and ACLS certifications
  • Prior experience in a step down or similar unit preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing ventilators, high-flow oxygen therapy, BiPAP, and other respiratory equipment
  • Competent in titration of drips such as Insulin and Cardizem
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records system, Epic

Unit Information

  • Team emphasizes patient-centric care, teamwork, and respectful treatment of a diverse patient population
  • EMTs and support staff (nursing assistants, charge nurses, case managers, social workers, educators, and dietitians) work collaboratively to enhance patient experience
  • Hourly rounding and bedside shift reports are standard practice
  • Equipment on the unit includes high-flow oxygen devices, ventilators, BiPAP machines, and electronic infusion pumps
  • Travelers should be comfortable managing titratable drips and respiratory equipment
