Travel Nurse RN - NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care - $2,284 per week
About the Role
Travel nursing position for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. This is a 13-week assignment with 36 hours per week, offering 12-hour shifts that include both day and night options.
Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 22 (can flex up with twins)
- Number of Staff: 50 RNs
- Day Shift Staffing: 1 CNC or Charge, 5-10 RNs, 1 US or PCT (all dependent on census)
- Night Shift Staffing: Same as day shift without US
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 – 1:4
- Equipment Used: Giraffe isolettes, Medfusion 3500 syringe pumps, Baxter Sigma Spectrum infusion pumps, Servo-I ventilator, CareFusion SensorMedics Oscillator, Bunnell Jet Ventilator, GE BiliSpot Light, ArcticSun Hypothermia, GE Cardiac Monitor
- EMR: Meditech
Responsibilities
- Assist with circumcisions
- NGT placement
- IV starts
- Lab draws (heel stick/arterial draw)
- Medication administration (IV/PO/SubQ)
- ECG
- Assist with UGI/Barium Enema/MRI/HUS/etc.
Requirements
Must-Have Skills (Non-Negotiable)
- Previous Level III NICU Experience
- Central Line Maintenance (PICC/UVC/UAC)
- Experience with intubated/vented patients
- Bubble CPAP/NIPPV
- Experience with gestational age as low as 23 weeks
- IV drips
Preferred Skills
- High Frequency JET/Oscillator Vent
- Post-Op GTube
- Delivery experience (not required)
- Admission/Discharge experience
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Schedule
- 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Schedule is determined by the director to fill unit needs, with traveler preferences considered
- No on-call requirements
Unit Guidelines/Policies
- Huddle at 0700/1900 followed by bedside report
- Must clock out for 30-minute lunch unless noted in Kronos log
- Must notify unit 2 hours prior to start of shift for call out
Dress Code
- Scrub color: Navy (hospital-provided ceil blue scrubs available if preferred)
