About the role

Medical Surgical (MS) Nurse position at a healthcare facility in Bemidji, Minnesota. This role involves providing high-quality nursing care in a busy 41-bed medical-surgical unit, managing patient needs including orthopedic, behavioral health, and general medical-surgical cases. The unit has 12 semi-private and 29 private rooms with nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 during day shifts and 12-6:1 during night shifts. Clinicians must badge in and out at the facility and wear navy blue scrubs. Floating to other units such as telemetry, observation, post-partum, or acute rehab may be required, particularly if not assigned to the med surg department. The charting system used is EPIC.

Schedule

  • 12-hour day shifts
  • Every other weekend and holiday
  • Minimum 36 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care in a medical-surgical unit
  • Manage orthopedic, behavioral health, and medical-surgical patient cases
  • Monitor tele patient care
  • Perform chest tube management, trach cares, and procedures such as paracentesis or thoracentesis
  • Float to other units as needed (telemetry, observation, post-partum, or acute rehab)

Requirements

  • Active Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical-surgical unit
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Experience with orthopedic patients
  • EPIC experience
  • Ability to monitor tele patient care
  • Knowledge of chest tube management, trach cares, and procedures such as paracentesis or thoracentesis
  • If previously employed by this healthcare provider, last employment must have ended at least 6 months prior to submission
