Med Ninjas is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Des Moines, Iowa.Job Description & RequirementsSpecialty: Med SurgDiscipline: RNStart Date: ASAPDuration: 13 weeks36 hours per weekShift: 12 hours, nightsEmployment Type: TravelJob Summary – List Format Position: Travel Med Surg RN Facility: Iowa Methodist Medical Center (UnityPoint Health - Des Moines) Location: Des Moines, Iowa (candidates cannot reside within 50 miles) --- ### Job Duties & Details - Provide nursing care for general med surg patients, including renal, transplant, and urology cases - Will be required to float across all campuses: Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Iowa Methodist - 22-bed unit, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:5-6 - Utilize EPIC EMR for documentation - Wear navy blue scrubs - Participate in a minimum 16-hour orientation (NBO) - May serve in charge/precept roles ($6/hr differential) - Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming winter holidays (must be able to work Thanksgiving), unless unit is closed - On-call pay: $9/hour; Call back pay: 1.5x with 2-hour minimum - OT/Holiday: 1.15x multiplier; OT billable after 40 hrs/week (36-40 schedule) or after 48 hrs/week (48-hr schedule) --- ### Requirements - Minimum 24 months recent hospital/medical center Med Surg experience (including renal, urology, and transplant care) - At least 1 completed travel contract within previous 15 months - Strong renal and urology experience required - Proficient in transplant care - Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma experience highly preferred - EPIC EMR experience required - Active Iowa or Compact/Multistate RN license at submission - BLS certification (AHA or ARC/Red Cross) - Driver’s license - Med Surg-specific skills checklist - Professional reference from charge/supervisor/manager within last 24 months preferred --- ### Policies & Restrictions - No local candidates within 50 miles (verified by driver’s license) - Employee Separation Policy: No former FTE or PRN UPH employees (in any market/facility) within last 12 months; does not apply to travel-only staff - Must be willing to float to different campuses as needed --- ### About the Facility - Iowa Methodist Medical Center is a 370-bed regional medical center and teaching hospital - Renowned for cancer care, cardiac care, and trauma (Level I Trauma Center) - Offers comprehensive rehabilitation, maternity, and educational programs - Part of UnityPoint Health, a leading Midwest healthcare system --- Orientation Dates: 10/26, 11/9, 11/23, 12/7 --- Ideal Candidate: Experienced Med Surg/renal/urology nurse with travel experience, trauma background, and flexibility to float and cover holidays, meeting all licensure and certification requirements.Med Ninjas Job ID #18646.
