About the role

Labor and Delivery Nurse position available in Ellsworth, Maine. This role involves providing comprehensive care across all phases of labor, postpartum, and neonatal care within a Level III nursery setting. The candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support low-risk and high-risk patients, including those with postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, bilirubin management, and neonatal abstinence syndrome. The assignment offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a focus on patient-centered care.

Schedule

  • Nights shift, 12 hours per shift
  • Minimum of 36 hours per week
  • No on-call requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide care across all phases of labor, postpartum, and neonatal care
  • Manage low-risk and high-risk patients, including those with postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, bilirubin management, and neonatal abstinence syndrome
  • Perform well baby care in a rooming-in model
  • Complete STABLE certification within 30 days of start
  • Float to medical-surgical or emergency department tasks as needed, with no patient assignment during float
  • Use EMR system Cerner

Requirements

  • Valid BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications
  • Intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of labor and delivery experience
  • Experience with all phases of labor, postpartum, and neonatal care
  • Comfortable managing high-risk conditions including postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP, bilirubin management, and NAS babies
  • Willingness to start ASAP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with shoulder dystocia, epidural management, intrathecal spinal analgesia, nitrous oxide
  • Experience with C-section neonatal care, neonatal vital signs, thermoregulation, and hypoglycemia management

Additional Information

  • Unit staffed with at least 2 nurses overnight, sometimes 3
  • No dedicated nursery RN; postpartum and neonatal care are combined
  • Low-volume deliveries averaging 200 per year
  • No infectious or telemetry patients
  • Orientation includes general hospital and unit-specific training
