About the role
Postpartum Nurse Specialist position in Los Angeles, California. This role involves caring for postpartum patients with high-risk conditions, requiring flexibility to float to additional units such as Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric care. The position is suitable for experienced professionals who can adapt to a dynamic clinical environment and support a high-volume birth center.
Unit includes 28 postpartum beds with approximately 3,300 births annually. Responsible for high-risk pregnancies including blood pressure issues, multiple gestations, diabetes, substance abuse, and patients without prenatal care. Staff is open to travelers; must maintain an open mind and adaptability to unit operations. Common patient diagnoses include high-risk obstetrics and neonatal conditions. The unit operates with a charge nurse, nurse aides, OB technicians, and has in-house obstetric and neonatal attending physicians. Charting system used is Cerner.
Responsibilities
- Care for postpartum patients with high-risk conditions
- Float to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and pediatric units to care for feeders and growers, and low acuity pediatric patients
- Adapt to first-to-float responsibilities to NICU and Pediatric units
Requirements
- Valid license to submit
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Four or more years of postpartum experience preferred
- Travel experience is advantageous
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in high-acuity postpartum units
- Ability to adapt to diverse clinical settings including NICU and pediatric care
Schedule
- 12-hour day shifts
- Every other week
- 36 hours per week
