About the role
The ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nurse position is located in Kearney, Nebraska. This role involves providing specialized care to adult patients with critical conditions such as trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress. The nurse will work night shifts in a 33-bed ICU with an average daily census of 16, managing complex patient needs in a high-acuity environment.
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts
- Minimum of 36 hours per week
- May float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Medical-Surgical units, typically maintaining patient ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
- Orientation includes one unit-specific shift
- Request Time Off (RTO) must be submitted upfront for 7 or fewer days; no additional RTO will be approved during the contract
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts within a 13-week contract
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized care to critically ill adult patients
- Monitor and interpret GE brand monitors and strips
- Assist with troubleshooting respiratory equipment such as nasal cannulas, vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow devices
- Manage ventilator settings and titrate drips (e.g., cardiac, insulin, sedation)
Requirements
- Valid RN licensure
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- 2 years of recent ICU experience
- Current driver’s license
- Willingness to work night shifts and weekends
- Active certifications and valid license to submit prior to start
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ventilator management
- Experience titrating drips such as cardiac, insulin, and sedation
