About the Role
The organization is seeking an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Registered Nurse for a position located in Spokane, Washington. This role involves caring for a diverse patient population in a Level 3 Trauma Center with 18 beds, including medical, surgical, and neuro ICU units. The position requires providing high-acuity patient care in a fast-paced environment and supporting a dedicated team within the Intensive Care Unit.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity patient care in a Level 3 Trauma Center ICU with 18 beds
- Care for medical, surgical, and neuro ICU patient populations
- Perform cardiac rhythm interpretation and medication titration
- Manage proning and hypothermia protocol procedures
- Handle chest tubes, drains, and invasive line monitoring (a-lines, CVP)
- Float coverage may include Medical, Surgical, Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit floors
- Assist with transport, sitting, and task-based activities as needed
Patient Types
- Medical ICU: DKA, DTs, multisystem failure, ARDS, CIWA/EtOH, sepsis, PNA, COVID
- Surgical ICU: open abdomen and thoracotomies
- Neuro/trauma ICU: CVA, intracranial hemorrhage, craniotomy/craniectomy, EVDs, ICP monitoring
Required Qualifications
- Valid BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- 0 years minimum experience
- Current license to practice as an RN in the state of Washington
- Strong ICU skill set including cardiac rhythm interpretation, medication titration, proning, hypothermia protocol knowledge, chest tubes, drains, invasive line monitoring (a-lines, CVP)
- Traveler competency in telemetry must be completed and passed prior to start
Preferred Qualifications
- Travel experience is strongly preferred but flexibility may be given depending on ICU experience
- Experience with diverse ICU patient populations including medical, surgical, and neuro cases is advantageous
Schedule
- Days shift, 12-hour shifts
- Minimum of 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation
- Attempt to cluster night shifts
- Possible time-off requests up to 5 days (excluding holidays)
- 1-2 holidays per season expected
Unit Information
- Patient Ratios: 1:2-3, depending on acuity levels
- Support on the Unit: Mobility technicians support vented patients, facilitate ambulation, and assist with patient mobilization based on individual patient needs
- Team Support: 24/7 hospitalist and respiratory therapist availability, day-long intensivist presence, free floating charge nurse, peripheral phlebotomy, resource nurse, and rapid response team
- Charting System/Equipment: EPIC electronic health record, BD Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing system
- Orientation: General orientation with 2x 12-hour on-unit orientation shifts
- Scrub color is flexible but must be professional
- Parking is available in designated areas
