About the Role

Registered Nurse – Intensive Care - ICU - Travel. Pay Rate: $1706.00 - $1812.00 per shift.

Unit Information

  • Beds: 29
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years in Adult ICU
  • Will accept a first-time traveler only if they have completed at least one 13-week assignment

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses

  • Neuro ICU including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhage, traumatic brain injuries, seizures/status epilepticus, spinal cord injuries, EVD drains/ICP monitoring, post-op craniotomies (straight from OR), IR (straight from procedure), TNK patients – 50% of TNK administrations occur on the unit vs. ED
  • Some off-service Trauma or Medical ICU patients

Patient Ratios

  • RN: 1:2; sometimes tripled if patients have downgrade orders
  • CNA – not consistently staffed on this unit

Responsibilities

  • Management of external ventricular drains (EVD), intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Ventilator management
  • Management of vasoactive drips
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Central line maintenance
  • Post-monitor TNK and IR
  • CRRT (if competent)

Requirements

  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications
  • Epic experience required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • SSN and DOB required for compliance
  • 1 reference in the last 12 months
  • Skills checklist within the last 12 months
  • ICU reference within the last 12 months
  • 1 previous travel assignment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working 12-hour day shifts (12N)

Support & Resources

  • Supervisor, Stroke Response Nurse, Clinical Educator, Charge Nurse (free floating)
  • Phlebotomy: Nurse Draw
  • RT 24/7
  • Intensivist, NP, or PA in-house 24/7 as part of the Neurocritical Care Team
  • Pharmacist – shared pharmacy team after 2300
  • PT/OT/ST – 7 days a week
  • Case Management/Social Work available

Technology & Equipment

  • EMR: Epic (required)
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Philips
  • Unit-specific equipment: Artic Sun (Targeted Temperature Management), Vigilance Monitor, CRRT, ICP Monitoring/EVD drains

Floating & Orientation

  • May float to Adult Critical Care units (MICU, STICU, Dixon Heart, CTICU) or PCU (max ratio 1:3)
  • Orientation: NEO (New Employee Orientation) plus 2 days departmental, dependent on skillset and comfort level

Schedule

  • Weekend rotation: every other (Fri/Sat/Sun)
  • No on-call requirement
  • Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
  • RTO (Request Time Off): Manager approval required
  • Shift times: 12N (12-hour day shifts)
  • Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
