Job Details

- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Shift: 12 hours, nights
- Shift Details: 12-hour variable evening and night shifts with some day shifts if needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday required
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday required
- On-Call: No on-call requirement; occasional standby if low census prior to shift starting
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: ER 1:3, Urgent Care 1:6
- Triage: Travelers are expected to perform triage for walk-in and ambulance patients
- Patient Population: ER holds are intermixed within the department; 4 dedicated psych rooms within the department
- Common Diagnoses: Chest pain, abdominal pain, sepsis, syncope, elevated heart rate, headache, and suicide ideation
- Common Drips: Heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, amiodarone, nicardipine, and norepinephrine
- Labs: RNs are expected to draw labs; phlebotomy handles blood cultures unless delayed beyond 20 minutes
- Monitoring: RNs are expected to monitor patient rhythms using GE monitors throughout the department
- Respiratory Equipment: RNs can troubleshoot RT equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow) but should call RT for assistance
- Floating: May occur only for patient sitter or helping hands roles; will not be required to take a patient team
- Charting System: Cerner experience preferred
- Scrubs: Any solid color, clean and professional
- Orientation: Three days total: Day 1 includes computer-based training and department orientation; Days 2 and 3 include on-unit orientation with an RN preceptor
- Time Tracking: Must clock in and out at the facility
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of ER experience preferred
- Pediatric Experience: Required
- Trauma Experience: Level 1 or 2 trauma experience preferred
Certifications
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- PALS (AHA)
- TNCC
Facility Information
This facility operates as an Adult and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center with STEMI receiving and Stroke Center capabilities. The emergency department consists of 38 combined Emergency and Urgent Care beds with 5 trauma bays and resuscitation rooms, treating an average of 140 to 180 patients per day. The department is supported by ED physicians, mid-levels including PACs and NPs, charge nurses, a 24/7 house supervisor, HUCs, technicians, and paramedics who assist with medication administration, patient discharge, and procedural tasks. Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7, and both X-ray and CT imaging are located within the department.
