Travel Nurse RN - DOU - Direct Observation Unit - $2,448 per week

About the role

Travel nurse RN position in the Direct Observation Unit (DOU) at a full-service hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin. 13‑week assignment, 36 guaranteed hours per week on 12‑hour night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM). The unit maintains a 1:4 nurse‑to‑patient ratio on an 8‑bed unit with two RNs per shift, caring for a diverse patient population and managing various drips.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care for conditions including anemia, cellulitis, COPD, CHF, dehydration, pre‑op, urology, and GI.
• Manage drips such as Cardizem, Nitro, Insulin, and Heparin.
• Read and interpret EKG strips; EKG exam administered during compliance.
• Handle high volume of admissions and discharges with average patient stay up to 48 hours.
• Float to other inpatient units as needed.
• Work independently, manage tasks timely, collaborate with team and ancillary staff.
• Maintain positive attitude and flexibility with constant changes.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
• At least one prior travel assignment.
• EPIC charting experience required.
• Required certifications: Wisconsin RN License, BLS, ACLS (ARC or AHA accepted).
• Associate Degree or Certificate in nursing required.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks timely.
• Positive attitude and flexibility with constant changes.

Qualifications

• Background in observation units or step‑down MS/Tele units preferred.
• Any color scrubs accepted.

Skills

• EKG strip interpretation.
• Management of Cardizem, Nitro, Insulin, and Heparin drips.
• EPIC documentation.
• Ability to float to various inpatient units.
• Strong communication and teamwork.

Pay

Estimated gross weekly pay: $2,448 plus a $500 contract completion bonus. Pay based on 12‑hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation); tax‑free stipend amount to be determined.

Schedule

• 12‑hour night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

• Every other weekend and every other holiday required.
