About the role
Medical Surgical Floor Nurse in Wheeling, West Virginia. This role involves providing high-quality patient care on a 52-bed unit specializing in post-operative, neuro, and general medical care. The position requires adaptability to float to related units and working scheduled 12-hour night shifts within a fast-paced hospital environment.
The unit specializes in ortho, neuro, and general post-ops, with patients including post-surgical and medical diagnoses such as COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, and infections. The hospital operates a 24/7 ICU intensivist team, hospitalist, IV team, RT, and pharmacy services.
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts: 0645-1915 and 1845-0715
- Schedules are created for a 6-week cycle, allowing staff to submit up to 6 requests off during this period
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality patient care on a 52-bed medical-surgical unit
- Float to related units as needed (MedSurg/Oncology or overflow areas)
Requirements
- Current BLS (American Heart Association) Certification
- NIHSS Certification
- Two years of experience in a medical surgical setting
- Active West Virginia nursing license (willingness to wait for license submission)
- Unexpired driver’s license (copy required at submission)
- Disclosure of any licensing hits at time of submission
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with peritoneal dialysis and reading strips
- Hemodialysis experience, particularly peritoneal dialysis
- ACLS certification
Orientation
