About the Role
Medical Surgical Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical Floor care is sought for a 13-week travel assignment in Artesia, New Mexico. The position involves working in a small hospital environment with interdisciplinary responsibilities, including patient assessments, transfers, and administrative tasks. The role offers an opportunity to provide high-quality patient care in a dynamic acute care setting.
The unit supports a variety of patient types including Medical, Surgical, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU). Nurses may be called upon to work in PCU depending on competency. The role includes managing all respiratory therapy equipment and occasionally managing titratable infusions. The facility has 26 beds, with RN-to-patient ratios of 1:3-5 and nurse aides with a ratio of 1:8.
All necessary respiratory therapy equipment is provided in-house 24/7. There is a 1-2 day unit-specific orientation with a preceptor. The hospital is working toward becoming a Level IV trauma facility. No call or floating requirements are specified, but CNA may be asked to float to the Emergency Department for sitter shifts.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and transfers
- Manage titratable drips such as insulin, amiodarone, and levofed
- Operate and interpret telemetry strips
- Manage CRT devices
- Handle respiratory therapy equipment
- Occasionally manage titratable infusions
- Work in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) as needed based on competency
Requirements
- Valid nursing license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- 3 years of Medical-Surgical experience
- Ability to read tele strips
- Proficiency in titrating drips (e.g., insulin, amiodarone, levofed)
- Experience managing CRT devices
- Minimal experience required for first-time travelers
Preferred Qualifications
- PCU/Stepdown experience
- ICU experience
- Ability to maintain intubation
- Experience with Tracheostomy care
- Familiarity with Mindray cardiac monitors
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts
- Minimum of 36 hours per week
