About the role
The Medical Surgical Floor Nurse position is located in Hilo, Hawaii. The role involves providing patient care across various medical and surgical units, with a focus on night shifts. The nurse will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care in accordance with unit protocols, supporting patient recovery, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM to 7:15 AM)
- Minimum of 36 hours per week following orientation
- Candidates must arrive the Thursday before the start date to attend employee health appointments scheduled for Friday
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care in medical and surgical units
- Float between units including Medical, Laulima (surgical acute), and Cardiovascular (on rare occasions)
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
Requirements
- Valid Hawaii nursing license
- 0-10 years of nursing experience
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS (PALS, Procedural Sedation, TNCC, ENPC preferred)
Unit/Department Details
- Medical Unit: 77 beds
- Laulima Unit (surgical acute): 18 beds
- Cardiovascular Unit: 15 beds
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Medical - 1:6 during days and evenings, 1:8 at night; Laulima - 1:6; Cardiovascular - 1:4; ratios may vary due to staffing changes.
Dress Code: Professional nursing attire with clean scrubs.
Equipment Utilized: Meditech electronic medical records, Pyxis medication dispensing system, wound vacs, chest tubes.
