About the role
The organization is seeking a qualified registered nurse for a Medical Surgical Floor position at a healthcare facility in Salem, Virginia. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to post-operative orthopedic, spine surgical, and podiatry patients within a busy medical-surgical unit. The successful candidate will contribute to a collaborative team environment and deliver high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to post-operative orthopedic, spine surgical, and podiatry patients
- Work within a 30-bed unit (potential expansion to 36 beds) specializing in orthopedics, neuro, and pediatrics
- Operate Baxter IV pumps, Medfusion pumps, and Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs)
- Document patient care in Meditech EMR
Requirements
- Valid nursing license
- BLS certification
- 0 or more years of nursing experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Experience caring for pediatric patients
- Familiarity with post-operative orthopedic care
Unit Information
- Location: 6 East Orthopedics/Neuro/Pediatrics
- Capacity: 30 beds (potential expansion to 36)
- Staffing: 45 employees including clinical coordinators, registered nurses, technicians, and unit secretaries
- Personality Fit: Team player with a positive attitude and strong patient advocacy skills
- Dress Code: Navy Blue and White scrubs; no hoodies, pull-overs, or T-shirts
Schedule
- 12-hour day shifts
- Minimum 36 hours per week
