About the role

TotalMed is seeking a Medical Surgical RN for an immediate travel nursing opening in Nashville, TN. The right RN should have 1–2 years recent acute care experience. As a MedSurg RN, you will conduct patient assessments and prioritize data collection based on patients' immediate conditions or needs, perform ongoing assessments and appropriate treatments as ordered by a physician, document patient findings, and provide education and support to patients' families.

Responsibilities

Provide bedside care for a variety of patients, including pre- and post-op patients
Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment
Change dressings, insert catheters and start IVs
Prepare equipment and aid physician during examination and treatment of patient
Educate patients on surgical procedures
Participate in discharge planning and initiate patient education plan as prescribed by physician

Physical demands & work environment

Stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as bend, lean and stoop without difficulty
Easily lift 20 pounds; moving or lifting patients may require lifting up to 50 pounds at times
Work in a fast-paced environment treating patients that may be confused, agitated, and/or uncooperative

Requirements

BLS certification
2 years of recent acute care experience
Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment
