About the role
TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The position is for a Medical Surgical RN with 1‑2 years of recent acute care experience. TotalMed RN is a Top Ten travel nursing and healthcare staffing agency that places nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and other clinicians across all 50 states, focusing on providing highly‑skilled staff to facilities for better patient experiences.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient assessments and prioritize data collection based on patients' immediate conditions or needs.
- Perform ongoing assessments and appropriate treatments as ordered by a physician.
- Document patient findings and provide education and support to patients' families.
- Provide bedside care for a variety of patients, including pre‑ and post‑op patients.
- Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment.
- Change dressings, insert catheters and start IVs.
- Prepare equipment and aid the physician during examination and treatment of the patient.
- Educate patients on surgical procedures.
- Participate in discharge planning and initiate patient education plans as prescribed by the physician.
- Stand and walk for long periods of time; bend, lean and stoop without difficulty.
- Lift up to 20 pounds easily; moving or lifting patients may require up to 50 pounds at times.
- Work in a fast‑paced environment treating patients that may be confused, agitated, and/or uncooperative.
Requirements
- 1‑2 years recent acute care experience (Med Surg RN).
- Current BLS certification.
- Current NIH certification.
- Additional certifications may be required before beginning the assignment.
