Responsibilities
Long‑term care nurses provide extended care to patients living with disabilities or suffering from progressive or chronic illnesses, often working with the elderly and others who need assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing and dressing. Duties include recording vital signs, administering medications, completing assignments made by physicians, providing routine treatment, assessing changes in patient health status, performing various treatments, and maintaining meticulous documentation of medication and treatment administration to ensure continuity of care between nursing staff, physicians, and the treatment team. Due to the broad range of medical conditions encountered, nurses must be well‑versed in a large variety of health conditions.
Requirements
- Active RN license or active LPN license
- Degree from an accredited nursing program
- BLS certification
- Minimum eighteen months of recent experience in a long‑term care setting
- Additional requirements may be specified by the client facility
