Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care in various healthcare settings, focusing on basic nursing functions such as medication administration, vital sign monitoring, wound care, and patient education.
  • Work as part of a healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and effective care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain Patient Health: Monitor and record patient vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration).
  • Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications via oral, topical, and injection routes.
  • Wound Care: Perform basic wound care, dressing changes, and catheter care.
  • Activities of Daily Living: Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, eating, mobility).
  • Specimen Collection: Collect specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Observation and Reporting: Observe and report changes in patient condition to supervising RN or physician.

Patient Monitoring and Assessment

  • Health Assessments: Conduct routine health assessments and screenings.
  • Response Monitoring: Monitor patient responses to treatments and medications.
  • Complication Recognition: Recognize and report signs of complications or adverse reactions.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and observations.
  • Diagnostic Support: Assist with diagnostic procedures and tests.

Medication Administration

  • Preparation and Administration: Prepare and administer medications according to physician orders.
  • Verification: Verify patient identity and medication accuracy using safety protocols.
  • Monitoring: Monitor patients for medication side effects and therapeutic responses.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain medication records and inventory.
  • Education: Educate patients about medication purposes and side effects.

Patient Education and Support

  • Health Education: Provide basic health education to patients and families.
  • Self-Care Teaching: Teach patients about disease management and self-care techniques.
  • Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and comfort to patients and families.
  • Discharge Planning: Assist with discharge planning and follow-up care instructions.
  • Infection Control: Promote patient safety and infection control practices.

Documentation and Communication

  • Records Maintenance: Maintain detailed patient records and care plans.
  • Intervention Documentation: Document all nursing interventions and patient responses.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with healthcare team members.
  • Shift Reports: Participate in shift reports and team meetings.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.

Equipment and Supply Management

  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain basic medical equipment.
  • Cleaning and Sterilization: Ensure proper sterilization and cleaning of equipment.
  • Supply Monitoring: Monitor and order supplies as needed.
  • Environment Maintenance: Maintain clean and organized work environment.
