About the role
The Labor and Delivery Department in Worthington, Minnesota, is seeking qualified registered nurses for night shift assignments. These positions involve providing care for obstetric, postpartum, and neonatal patients, with responsibilities including interpretation of fetal monitor strips, attendance at vaginal deliveries, and immediate newborn resuscitation. The roles require working in a fast-paced, acute care environment with a focus on maternal and neonatal health.
Schedule
- Night shifts lasting 12 hours
- Minimum of 36 hours per week
- Weekend shifts required (Friday through Sunday), with options for weekend-only contracts or night contracts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
Responsibilities
- Interpretation of fetal monitor strips
- Attendance at vaginal deliveries
- Immediate newborn resuscitation
- Provide care for obstetric, postpartum, and neonatal patients
- Floating to other units/departments may be required, primarily within Women’s Center and occasionally to General Medical units if census warrants
Requirements
- Valid license to practice as a registered nurse
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in interpretation of fetal monitor strips, attendance at vaginal deliveries, and immediate newborn resuscitation
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Specific Unit/Department Details
- 12-bed facility with designated triage, labor and recovery, postpartum, and well-newborn areas
- Nurse-to-patient ratio:
- 1:2-3 for mother/baby couplets
- 1:2 for early labor
- 1:1 for active labor
- 1:3 postpartum
- Systems used: EPIC computer charting, OBIX fetal monitoring, and Acudose medication dispensing
Orientation and Training
- New hire safety program
- Emergency management case training

- Total orientation: 2-3 days based on experience
