Responsibilities & Skills
- Administration of blood & blood products
- Adult cardiac arrest and infant/neonatal arrest management
- Amnioinfusion and use of intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC) placement/calibration
- APGAR scoring and newborn assessment
- Assist with high-risk delivery, sterile speculum exams, and vaginal deliveries
- Baby-friendly protocols and breastfeeding/lactation support
- Bladder distension assessment and Foley catheter insertion/management
- Care for conditions including diabetes mellitus, HELLP syndrome, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, pregnancy-induced hypertension, placenta previa/abruptio, and postpartum hemorrhage
- Cesarean section (circulate and recover)
- Collect cord samples and perform cord care
- Couplet care (mother/baby) and neonatal abstinence syndrome management
- Discharge teaching to parents, including circumcision care
- Drawing venous blood and starting/maintaining IVs
- Epidural anesthesia and general anesthesia management
- Episiotomy/incisional care and wound assessment
- External and internal fetal monitoring (EFM), including recognition/treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Facility experience: 100–200 births/month
- Forceps/vacuum extraction and malpresentations (breech/face/brow)
- Fundus, lochia, and perineum care
- HIV, infectious disease, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Insulin drips and magnesium sulfate therapy
- Low-risk and multiple gestation deliveries
- Neonatal resuscitation and thermoregulation (radiant warmers)
- Non-stress tests (NST) and opioid pain management
- Phototherapy and metabolic screening
- Pitocin (oxytocin) administration and prostaglandin use
- Premature rupture of membranes and preterm labor management
- Rapid response/code team activation
- Reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus evaluation
- RH incompatibilities and seizure disorder management
- Sterile vaginal exams and use of infusion pumps/drips/IV monitoring
- Substance abuse and neonatal abstinence syndrome care
- Teaching hospital experience
- Terbutaline administration and antihypertensives
- Uterine rupture and vaccine administration
- Use of electric/manual breast pumps
Requirements
- 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience
- Certifications: BLS, NRP, AWHONN Beginner or Intermediate
- Licensure: Active OK license or Compact License
- Charting system: Epic
- Previous Charge Nurse experience preferred
