Opportunity

Interventional Radiology Tech - Interventional Radiology

  • $500 contract completion bonus
  • Experience circulating and scrubbing basic, intermediate, and complex IR cases required
  • Neuro IR experience strongly preferred but not required
  • Work with imaging equipment including GE and Siemens systems, GE Ultrasound, Boston Scientific IVUS, Siemens ICE, and Angiojet
  • Department staffed 24/7 treating adult patients only, no pediatrics
  • Perform general IR procedures including kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, central line/PICCs/ports, fistulograms, IVC filter placement, nephrostomy tubes, nephroureteral stents, peripheral leg cases, coil embolization, and thoracentesis/paracentesis
  • CT Room procedures supported by IR including cryotherapy, CT biopsies, and drains
  • AAA intervention experience preferred
  • Neuro IR procedures include strokes and embolization (required for RN; RT without Neuro experience requires manager approval)
  • Average patient volume of 40-50 patients per day
  • RT(R) must be able to scrub and pan simultaneously and have experience with General IR cases
  • Comfort with charging and coding for procedures preferred but not required for RT(R)
  • RN responsibilities include administering sedation unless anesthesia is involved, monitoring, and charting
  • Required certifications for RN: BLS and ACLS
  • Required certifications for RT(R): ARRT, BLS, and Wisconsin License
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred for RNs
  • IV pumps: Alaris; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; PACS: Change Healthcare
  • Additional equipment includes MedRad injector, IVUS, GE Ultrasound, Laser, Bovie for port removals, and Angiojet (experience not required for these)
  • No floating to other units
  • Orientation includes 1-2 weeks with a preceptor and competency check-off

Schedule & Call Requirements

  • General IR shift times: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM; Neuro shift times: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Manager is open to adjusting shift configurations (e.g., four 10-hour shifts or two 8-hour and two 12-hour shifts)
  • Weekend rotation requires on-call availability
  • RT(R) weekday call: 1 call shift per week Monday through Thursday, end-of-shift until following day at 7:00 AM
  • RT(R) weekend call: once every 5th weekend, end-of-shift Friday until Monday at 7:00 AM
  • RN weekday call: 1 call shift per week Monday through Thursday, end-of-shift until following morning at 7:00 AM
  • RN weekend call: once every 5th or 6th weekend, end-of-shift Friday until Monday at 7:00 AM
  • Travelers will only take Neuro call if they have Neuro IR experience; otherwise, General IR call only
  • Call response time: 30 minutes

Facility & Location

This large medical center is a Level III Trauma Center and Level III NICU facility with 933 beds, holding Magnet Designation and recognized as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The interventional radiology department operates 24/7 with five procedure rooms and is supported by a robust team including two coordinators, two lead techs, respiratory therapy, hospitalist coverage, and CNA/transporter services all available around the clock. The department typically staffs two to three technologists per exam room and utilizes advanced imaging and clinical technology throughout.
