Radius Rule: 50 miles. Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any associated facility. Recent Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience required. Driver's license required at submittal to verify radius compliance.

Facility Details

  • Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified by State, Comprehensive Stroke Center
  • 20 beds: 5 Trauma, 10 OBS, hallway beds, plus 6 Fast Track beds
  • 3 triage beds (separate triage area)
  • In-house security 24/7, housed in the ER
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in OBS, 1:1 ICU/Trauma
  • Common diagnoses: Trauma, sepsis, chest pain, SOB, strokes-TPA
  • Common drips: All typical for a Level I trauma ER
  • Staffing: ED Physicians and Mid-Levels
  • Charge Nurse on every shift
  • Support staff: Nurse aids/EMT/Paramedics/Patient Sitters (ratios: 1:10 in OBS, 1:20 in main ED)
  • Tele/Monitor Techs present; RNs required to read and interpret their own strips

Schedule

  • Shifts: 0700-1900, 0900-2100, 1100-2300, 1500-0300, 1900-0700
  • Leadership creates the schedule
  • Weekend and holiday requirements vary based on department needs
  • Floating: Required to float to OBS unit and Freestanding Creighton ER at least once per week

Orientation & Policies

  • 1 week of onboarding, 2 shifts at Bergan, 1 shift at UC
  • Pass/Fail exam on Friday during orientation (open book on skills learned; 90% required to pass)
  • Artificial nails prohibited in all patient-care departments
  • RTO (Return Time Off) required upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract); additional RTO not approved

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care in a fast-paced, high-acuity Level I Trauma Emergency Department
  • Float to OBS unit and Freestanding Creighton ER as required
  • Adhere to facility policies, including fingernail policy and orientation exam requirements
