About the role

TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN for a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) position in Houston, Texas. Start date: 10/26/2026. Duration: 6 weeks. Employment type: travel. You will work with a diverse team of caregivers to administer care to patients following specialized procedures including open‑heart surgery and heart transplants.

Responsibilities

• Provide critical care to patients with potentially life‑threatening heart conditions.
• Prepare and administer prescribed medications.
• Take samples for diagnostic tests; order, interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests.
• Apply hemodynamic, phlebotomy and IV protocols.
• Be called in for emergencies to provide CPR and operate defibrillators hospital‑wide.
• Educate patients and family members on how to manage recovery at home.

Requirements

• ACLS certification
• BLS certification
• NIH certification
• 3 years of relevant experience

Qualifications

1‑2 years' recent acute care experience in a CVICU setting.

Skills

• Ability to stand and walk for long periods
• Ability to bend, lean and stoop without difficulty
• Ability to lift 20 pounds routinely; up to 50 pounds for patient moves when needed
• Strong stress‑coping skills
• Ability to relate to patients and families of all ages and backgrounds

Pay

Pay package is based on 12‑hour shifts and 48.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax‑free stipend amount to be determined.

Schedule
