About the role

A CT Technologist (CT Tech) operates computed tomography (CT) scanners to perform diagnostic imaging procedures for patients. The CT Tech ensures patient comfort and safety, prepares the imaging equipment, and assists the healthcare team in obtaining diagnostic information.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for CT scans by explaining the procedure, answering questions, and ensuring comfort.
  • Verify patient information, including medical history, allergies, and prior imaging, to ensure accurate diagnosis and appropriate imaging protocols.
  • Position patients properly on the CT table to obtain necessary images while ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Instruct patients on holding breath or remaining still during scans as required.
  • Operate and calibrate the CT scanner, adjusting settings such as radiation dose, slice thickness, and imaging protocols.
  • Administer contrast agents or dye injections (under physician or radiologist guidance) to enhance image clarity.
  • Monitor equipment during imaging to ensure high-quality images and troubleshoot errors.
  • Review CT images for quality, ensuring diagnostic standards are met, and repeat or adjust scans as necessary.
  • Work closely with radiologists to ensure images support accurate diagnosis.
  • Follow safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure, including using shielding and adhering to dosage guidelines.
  • Maintain a sterile, safe, and clean environment in the CT room, sanitizing equipment between patients.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to contrast agents and alert healthcare providers if necessary.
  • Collaborate with physicians, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to determine appropriate imaging procedures.
  • Document patient information, scan parameters, contrast media used, and complications in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Participate in patient care planning for complex imaging cases.
  • Maintain, clean, and perform basic troubleshooting on CT equipment, alerting maintenance staff to malfunctions.
  • Perform routine inspections and calibration of CT equipment, keeping logs of use, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Follow radiation safety protocols and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Stay updated on regulatory standards, including radiation safety, patient privacy, and procedural guidelines.
  • Accurately document imaging procedures, patient information, and adverse events.
  • Assist with maintaining patient flow by providing quick turnaround times for imaging results.
  • Provide patient education on aftercare, potential side effects, and follow-up procedures.
  • Address patient concerns about radiation exposure, claustrophobia, or other fears, offering support as needed.
  • Ensure patient privacy and dignity are maintained throughout the imaging process.
  • Participate in continuing education to stay current with advancements in CT imaging technology and safety procedures.
  • Attend training sessions and seminars on new imaging techniques or equipment.
  • Maintain professional certification and licensure, including continuing education requirements.

Pay

Pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
