Travel CDL Construction Worker/Laborer

About the Role

FiberTel is seeking Travel CDL Construction Worker/Laborers for our Portland location. This travel position covers job sites in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. You will support all phases of utility construction for various telecom projects, including placing poles, anchors, aerial strand and cable, trenching, boring, conduit installation, inside wiring, and testing.

Responsibilities

• Hand dig using a shovel and mechanical tools
• Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling
• Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
• Work in congested or remote areas
• Maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and moving/stationary objects for safety
• Perform general construction work under the direction of the Foreman/Supervisor
• Maintain safe working habits and conditions per regulations and policies
• Assist the operator and foreman as assigned
• Set up, prepare, and clean up construction sites
• Develop an understanding of buried utilities
• Lift heavy equipment and supplies

Requirements

• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
• Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible to obtain one
• Good driving record required
• Basic knowledge of operating utility trucks and equipment safely
• Basic knowledge of using hand tools and equipment safely
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus (higher wage scales apply)
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees
• Willing and able to work in all weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous construction experience, preferably in telecommunications
• Able to perform all duties in telecommunication construction
• Ability to travel

Working Conditions

This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week in an outdoor environment. You will be regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. Work environments vary daily and may include changes in terrain, traffic, urban, or rural settings. Occasional exposure to natural gas and electrical shock risks may occur. Moderate to loud noise levels are common.

• Ability to stand for long periods (up to 12 hours at a time)
• Tolerate work in extreme weather conditions
• Speak and hear worksite safety instructions
• Withstand prolonged and repeated lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and crawling
• Regularly lift 75 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Pay

$20–27/hour, plus daily per diem and travel accommodations.
