About the role

The Alfred Trauma Service is a busy inpatient clinical unit that provides and coordinates care for patients requiring treatment of injury. The service is nationally and internationally renowned as a leader in trauma care, education, and trauma informatics. The Alfred Hospital Trauma Registry (AHTR) sits within the Trauma Service and is an epidemiology, injury surveillance, and performance monitoring program that provides high-quality, reproducible, and accessible data for quality improvement and research purposes. It has a statutory responsibility to submit quarterly data to the Victorian State Trauma Registry, which is pivotal to the monitoring of the Victorian State Trauma System (VSTS).

This is a 3-day-per-week (0.6 EFT), fixed-term part-time position for 6 months, located at The Alfred. The role involves interrogating and completing legacy data, much of which is missing due to technical issues during database migration. The goal is to identify and fill gaps to ensure Registry data are of optimal quality.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the curation of the trauma dataset, including data entry and data management.
  • Ensure records in the database meet inclusion criteria and maintain responsibility for data quality and completeness.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Registry operations through professional agency and timely delivery.
  • Interrogate and complete legacy data to address gaps caused by technical issues during database migration.

Requirements

  • Experience with health-related data entry and navigating databases.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook).
  • In-depth knowledge of body systems, medical terminology, and common medical procedures.
  • Familiarity with medical records and clinical documentation.
  • High-level written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-direction.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all aspects of the role.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Experience in health-related data entry and database navigation.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in managing or curating large datasets.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Diligence and commitment to the role.
