Trauma PI Coordinator - 139803

The Trauma Performance Improvement Specialist supports the Trauma Program Manager (TPM) in all Trauma Performance Improvement and Peer Review activities, ensuring compliance with San Diego Trauma System and American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma verification standards.

About the role

The Trauma PI Specialist is responsible for the performance improvement process, performance improvement plans, and utilizes the Trauma registry for aggregating, monitoring, and reporting regulatory mandated and program-specific quality metrics. This role coordinates, implements, and maintains the trauma performance improvement and peer review process, reviews adverse events, monitors trends, and collaborates with the TPM to develop practice changes. The position works with Trauma Registrars to identify performance improvement issues and involves mostly computer-based work, not direct patient care, located in Hillcrest.

Responsibilities

• Support the Trauma Program Manager in Trauma Performance Improvement and Peer Review activities.
• Ensure performance improvement aligns with San Diego Trauma System and American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma verification processes.
• Manage the performance improvement process, including developing and implementing performance improvement plans.
• Utilize the Trauma registry to aggregate, monitor, and report quality metrics as mandated by regulations or specific to the program.
• Coordinate and maintain the trauma performance improvement and peer review process for the Trauma Program at UCSDH.
• Review adverse events, monitor trends, and develop practice changes in collaboration with the TPM.
• Work with Trauma Registrars to identify performance improvement issues.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in nursing or another healthcare profession; or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience.
• Three (3) years minimum clinical experience in a Trauma Level 1 or 2 center, specifically in Surgical ICU care.
• Experience in trauma program operations or trauma registry.
• Thorough knowledge of QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatory requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of QI models, measurement tools, and techniques, including data collection, aggregation, abstraction, validation, analysis, and reporting.
• Experience in public speaking.
• Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
• Experience in statistical reports, peer review, performance improvement, and epidemiology.
• Knowledge of computers, including Epic, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Knowledge of AIS and ICD coding.
• TNCC or ATCN course within the last 4 years.
• TOPIC Course within the last 5 years.
• AIS and ICD course within the last 4 years.
• Experience with Trauma Verification.

Pay

$100,000.00 - $182,000.00 per year.

Schedule

• Days, 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday.
• 100% appointment percent (full-time).
