Summary
Accurately and efficiently transport patients, wheelchairs, stretchers and traction equipment to and from the nursing units and ancillary departments. Use transport equipment correctly ensuring safety measures are adhered to. Cleans, repairs and maintains equipment for operability. Support the philosophy of nursing to provide better patient care.
Major Job Functions
- Transport patients with appropriate and approved devices safely and in a timely manner
- Observe patients for any changes in condition and report these promptly to shift supervisor and appropriate nursing staff
- Demonstrate correct techniques in handling patient tubes, IV’s and other patient equipment
- Demonstrate proper procedure for transporting patients
- Utilize proper body mechanics to discharge, transfer and position patients during transport
- Identify transportation equipment in need of repair and follow appropriate steps to repair equipment for safe use
- Use Rover device properly with EPIC Transport Command Center
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1 year experience in patient transportation services and prior hospital experience preferred
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
- Ability to meet and maintain requirements of a healthcare transporter
- Ability to meet requirements for CPR for Healthcare Provider, Nonviolent Crises Intervention (NCI) training and Restraints, Seclusion and Safety devices
- Ability to identify, understand and regulate flow meter on E-Cylinder
- Exemplary customer service skills
- Good problem solving skills, organizational skills, flexibility
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to quickly assess situations and respond promptly and appropriately
- Demonstrated competency with respect to the age specific physiological, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically served
- Ability to discharge/transfer patients and maneuver wheelchairs and stretchers with patients, including postmortem transport
- Ability to manipulate and monitor transport equipment, which often accompanies patients
- Ability to assume awkward positions
- Ability to move within assigned areas and throughout the medical center and detached buildings as necessary
- May require moderate to heavy lifting
- Ability to stand, walk and/or bend for prolonged periods of time
- Speech, visual and auditory acuity is essential for communication
