Transporter/Aide

Part-time, hourly position located at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, NJ. Pay range: $20.67 per hour.

About the Role

Under the supervision of a Department Supervisor or Manager, the Transporter/Aide ensures the highest level of safety, courtesy, and timely movement of patients within Clara Maass Medical Center. This includes assisting nursing personnel with physically moving patients between beds and transportation modes (e.g., wheelchair, stretcher). Training is provided by the Team Leader and Patient Transport staff. Safety is a top priority.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors politely and friendly.
• Transport patients using wheelchairs and stretchers.
• Verify two forms of patient identification prior to transport.
• Ensure patient comfort during transport, particularly to radiology departments.
• Engage patients in conversation to ease their experience.
• Maintain patient privacy at all times during transport.
• Complete in-patient transports within a 20-minute leave-to-return turnaround time.
• Communicate delays back to the department and request new assignments as needed.
• Assist nursing staff with moving patients from beds when necessary.
• Support other areas during high-activity periods.
• Conduct equipment rounds and transport equipment to central supply, PACU, or other hospital areas as directed.
• Pick up medications from the pharmacy and deliver them to the appropriate floor upon request.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to support and push patients of varying weights (100 lbs. to 300+ lbs.).
• Flexible scheduling, including availability to work every other weekend and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Prior experience as a transporter (preferred).
• BLS Certificate (preferred).
• One year of experience as a Customer Service representative (preferred).
• Experience in patient transport, medical settings, or patient contact (preferred).
