About the role
WRA is seeking a highly motivated intern to join our Transportation Water Resources team. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in hydrologic and hydraulic design, stormwater management, and environmental compliance for transportation infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and analysis of stormwater management systems, drainage structures, and erosion and sediment control plans.
- Support hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using software such as HEC-RAS, HY-8, and TR-55.
- Help prepare construction documents, technical reports, and permit applications.
- Conduct field investigations and assist with data collection and site assessments.
- Collaborate with engineers and environmental scientists on multidisciplinary transportation projects.
- Learn and apply local, state, and federal water resources regulations (e.g., VDOT, MDOT, PennDOT, NCDOT).
Requirements
- Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Strong interest in water resources/hydraulics and transportation infrastructure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Exposure to engineering software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, or GIS is a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Pay
The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $21.50 - $24.50. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
