Transportation Technician II
About the role
Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is a leading 100% employee-owned consulting firm with over 2,800 professionals offering comprehensive engineering, architecture, IT, and related services across the U.S. JMT's Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician II to inspect ongoing transportation projects in North Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on various transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to ensure conformance to plans and specifications
- Conduct routine material testing
- Track and measure quantities of pay items
- Gather and maintain record documents such as material certifications, testing reports, and daily diaries
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Two (2) years of progressive technician-level experience in construction inspection
- Active driver’s license
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
- NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
- Four (4) or more years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects
Qualifications
- Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends as required
Skills
- Ability to work safely in an outdoor environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites
- Knowledge of highway construction plans and specifications
- Proficiency in material testing and record-keeping
