This position is located at the Ohio Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Center at 1323 West Blee Road, Springfield, OH 45502.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate Ground-Based Detect & Avoid (GBDAA) radar feeds, ADS-B inputs, and LAANC flight approvals to ensure aircraft separation during operations, supporting uncrewed aircraft operations and testing.
  • Manage remote Drone-in-a-Box (DIB) and Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations using Skydio Dock systems and cloud command platforms for automated corridor mapping, bridge, roadway, and construction monitoring.
  • Serve as Remote Pilot-in-Command (RPIC) or Visual Observer (VO); construct 3D photogrammetry routes and automated inspection grids; perform preflight, in-flight, and post-flight checks for rotorcraft and fixed-wing platforms.
  • Conduct pre-mission planning and safety risk assessments, review weather, file NOTAMs, coordinate airspace with controlling agencies, and brief operation teams and requestors.
  • Organize, process, and deliver acquired data to the UAS Data Manager; prepare and maintain flight logs, risk assessments, equipment condition reports, accident/incident reports, and inventory records.

Requirements

  • Must hold and maintain an active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Possess a valid driver's license (or provide own transportation).
  • Willing to perform statewide travel with overnight stays as needed.
  • Experience operating rotorcraft/fixed-wing UAS platforms, personal computers/tablets, and specialized software (e.g., Microsoft Suite, UGCS, and various UAS flight command software).
  • Experience operating Skydio x10 aircraft and other platforms greater than 55 lbs.
  • Experience operating aircraft in a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) environment.
  • Experience conducting two-way radio communications with aircraft and/or aircrew.
  • Strong understanding of Part 107 safety practices, state/federal government structures, and agency-specific UAS policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of GIS and drone data collection and processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and process data, define problems, draw valid conclusions, perform basic calculations (fractions, decimals, percentages), and compile clear, concise reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to cooperate with team members on group projects and handle sensitive inquiries from public officials and the general public professionally.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience as Transportation Technician 1, with experience commensurate with the position to be filled.
  • Completion of an associate degree program in engineering technology plus 5 years of engineering-related technical experience in simple & standard construction/rehabilitation/maintenance projects or planning & design of simple & standard civil engineering projects or materials testing, with experience commensurate with the position to be filled.
  • 7 years of training or experience in engineering-related technical experience in simple & standard construction/rehabilitation/maintenance projects or planning & design of simple & standard civil engineering projects or materials testing, with experience commensurate with the position to be filled.
  • Equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
